The 2040H is a 102cm working width model with a hydrostatic transmission and is suitable for lawns of up to 3 acres. A twin cylinder Briggs & Stratton engine provides plenty of smooth power, enabling this tractor to tackle large areas and long grass with ease. Light steering and a tight turning circle make it easy to manoeuvre around trees, borders and garden furniture with the minimum of effort. All Mountfield garden tractors cut wider than the wheel width, which means there is little trimming left to do after the lawns have been mown.
A hydrostatic transmission is similar in many ways to the gearbox on an automatic car, forward and reverse speeds are infinitely variable. To move forward you simply press the forward pedal and the more firmly you press the faster you will go. For reverse, press the reverse pedal. You can change from forward to reverse instantly, so manoeuvrability is fantastic.
Grass cuttings are blown from the twin bladed cutter deck into a large capacity rear mounted collector. An alarm sounds to let the driver know when the collector is full. This is a valuable feature as there is nothing worse than overfilling the collector and then having to unblock the discharge chute by hand!
Emptying the collector is done from the driving seat; simply pull the dump lever and the collector opens wide, emptying out the clippings, you don't even need to leave the seat. Engaging the cutter deck is simple; just pull the control switch out for "On" and push it in for "Off". Selecting a suitable height of cut is easy too; a lever located conveniently at the driver's left-hand side has 7 preset cutting heights ranging from 30mm to 90mm. No tools are necessary and the cutting height can be adjusted on the move.
A deck wash facility means keeping the deck clean couldn't be easier. Simply attach a hose to the snap-on connector, turn on the water and engage the blades. Water blasts around beneath the deck washing it clean.
This lawn tractor is extremely versatile, it can collect the grass clippings or mulch and recycle the grass with the included mulching plug.
Mulching grass is a great feature as it saves so much time. It can be more than 30% quicker, there is no stopping work to empty clippings so this also results in a significant fuel saving. Mulching the grass allows the clippings to be recycled, improving the soil as they decompose forming a natural fertiliser high in potash and nitrogen. You will notice a marked improvement in your grass as this fertiliser takes effect over the course of the cutting season. You may well ask "Will I see the mulched grass?" The answer is "No!" Mulched clippings are blown down into the turf and are not noticeable provided the grass is cut regularly and not on the lowest setting. Some owners prefer to collect grass cuttings on areas close to the house to be certain that children or pets don't carry them inside, they then use the mulching facility on all the other areas.
Switching between collection or mulch modes is extremely simple and takes less than a minute. To switch into mulch mode just remove the collector, insert the mulching plug* into the discharge chute and replace the collector. To return to collection simply reverse the procedure.<br;gt

If you choose to purchase a product for forward delivery to an address outside our delivery area; should the item require any kind of repair or replacement, we will only collect the product from the UK delivery address.
If you are paying via American Express we can only deliver to the card holder’s address. We will contact you in the event of an order being placed to a different address to advise of these terms.
Items in stock are normally despatched within 24 hours on a 3-5 working day carrier service. Our customer service department will contact you if we foresee any delays beyond this, with the option to cancel or change your order. You will be notified by e-mail when your order is despatched, this e-mail will include your order consignment number and carrier contact details. Please note we cannot be held responsible for any orders delayed in the carrier service as this is simply beyond our control. All orders need to be signed for and cannot be left without a signature.
Please note that if you order several items together and one is out of stock this will delay the whole order from a next day delivery to the longest lead time on the order. We do not part ship.
If parcels are damaged or items are missing you should either refuse the delivery completely or sign for the parcels as being 'DAMAGED' If the number of parcels do not match or correspond to the consignment note, this must be stated as 'SHORT DELIVERY' It is your responsibility to ensure that the actions above are followed BEFORE SIGNING. Mistakes cannot be rectified once the number of packages has been signed for. All carriers’ related damages and discrepancies must be reported to us within 2 working days. We will not be responsible for any carrier-related damage or loss reported outside of this 2-day period.
